TAAKA Job Center (TJC)

TAAKA Job Centre (TJC) is a career focal point located at TAMAHI and constitutes a strong arm of the institution. The main functions of TJC include:

  1. Arranging fieldtrips and industrial placements for TAMAHI students.
  2. Negotiating TAMAHI graduates into various job positions (job placement).
  3. Screening qualified registered non-TAMAHI-student job seekers and recommending them to our partner employers.
  4. Arranging for scholarships in all fields and at all levels (diploma, HND, BSc) for those who register at TJC.

To achieve these goals, TJC has negotiated and signed partnership agreements with reputable appropriate institutions, companies, employers and industries. At TJC, we have human resource and public relations experts who assist in organizing orientation and counselling sessions, running career development seminars, interviews, and resume/curriculum vitae building skills.
The goal at TAMAHI of bridging the gap between curriculum and career is achieved through the direct application of classroom learning to the hands-on-deck experience in a real-world setting. This is done through our strong attachment to the industries in which our students carry out their internships, fieldtrips, and industrial placements. Such strong partnership concretizes the development of TAMAHI graduates and prepares them to adequately cope with challenges in the industries.
All our prospective graduates are expected to complete a project during their industrial placement. For example, those pursuing a diploma course in nautical sciences (School of Marine Studies) are expected to sail for a minimum of 90 days each year for the first 3 years of the program. Those sailing onboard oil tankers are expected to spend 120 days. During the fourth year, students spend the entire 12 months at sea in a professional setting obtaining training in seamanship, navigation and engineering. They are expected to analyse clearly in their end of industrial placement projects, the detailed operations scenarios in their places of internship. Projects of our trainees are often of great use to their host companies and to TAMAHI.
TJC does not only work for TAMAHI students and graduates. Other job seekers and employers are welcome to register and benefit from our expertise in either securing jobs or accessing appropriately qualified staff. Our human resource team screens job seekers who solicit our expertise to make sure that they are qualified before they are recommended to registered prospective employers.
