TAAKA Maritime Higher Institute (TAMAHI) is a tertiary maritime training institution fully authorized by the government of the Republic of Cameroon. It was founded in 2012 and started operating during the 2014/2015 academic year under the name TAAKA Maritime Academy (TMA). There was a name change in 2022 to TAAKA Maritime Higher Institute (TAMAHI). TAMAHI offers courses like Marine Engineering, Maritime Economics, Nautical Science etc., that prepares students to meet up with provisions of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) for careers in the Maritime Industry.
The maritime industry is a small but vital and indispensable element of international trade. Demand in this industry for trained seafarers largely exceeds supply. Therefore a career in the maritime industry guarantees you a well-paid job. Beside the good salaries, recent navigation consists of shorter stays at sea which results in mariners enjoying longer holidays.
Mariners turn to gain promotion faster than their counterparts working ashore. Also, due to experience at sea, mariners easily find shore-based jobs if they decide not to work at sea any longer. Such jobs ashore are either in the maritime industry (ship yards, ship owners, dredging companies, towage companies); port-related companies (stevedores, ship agents, freight forwarders); public authorities (pilotage, ports), maritime institutions, classification societies, marine insurance companies, supply and logistics companies, energy companies, oil and gas companies etc.
